Through @Danyork I got to know the video “The Internet of Things” from IBM. It is a very interesting view to the increasing connection of systems and machines over the internet. The triangle of in my perspective the pyramid, of Data, Information, Knowledge and Wisdom describes the different amount of social interaction. The fundament of the internet is data handled by machines, exchanging information among themselves. The Humans relying on machines and “littel agents” (as it is so perfectly described in the video) use the existing data to receive information and create knowledge by combining information. This knowledge creation process can be supported by machines and technologies, but in general it is dependent on the will and the capabilities of every Human-being to make use of the existing information and create knowledge. Wisdom is the very top of the pyramid and in my opinion can only be created by a human-being based on knowledge and experience. In conclusion, this video not only explains why the term Internet of Things is suitable to describe a huge portion of data and data exchange over the Internet. But a very clear and comprehensive visualization of the connection between knowledge and data.
